A Coastal Trail for the Rest of Us?

The County has a new Parks and Recreation Director–Dave Holland–and he lives here on the coastside. The County also has about $500,000 available for the Coastal Trail. Seems like a golden opportunity–literally–to have a discussion about what we would like in an expanded Coastal Trail.

Right now, the Trail runs north through Half Moon Bay and stops at the bridge on Mirada Road in Miramar, not coincidentally at the line where incorporated Half Moon Bay ends and unincorporated San Mateo County begins.

Dave Holland gave an excellent presentation last week to the MCC and I thought it would be worthwhile to give it extra attention.
In the video Dave lays out several possible routes and discuses the advantages of each. Most of the attention is on getting the Trail through the El Granada area but there is some discussion of how the Trail will eventually go through Montara and cross Devil’s Slide and Montara Mountain.

I think it would be a great addition to life on the coastside to have our trails more interconnected and to have a safer, bike-able path to go between Half Moon Bay and Montara. If you have resources to contribute–money and time–now is the time to contact Dave to learn how you can best help.
