San Mateo County officials have ordered all county beaches closed as a result of the tsunami expected to arrive here shortly after 1 pm. The tsunami is expected to result in choppy waters and strong currents. Officials are advising people to stay away from the beaches until late afternoon.
Illuminated signs on Highway 92 in San Mateo were flashing the beach closure to westbound motorists at noon. At the same time sheriff vehicles and personal were working to prepare a mobile illuminated sign at the corner of 92 and Main in Half Moon Bay.
There were no other visible signs of official activity visible from along Highway 1 up to Montara at that time.
