High Surf Advisory until 9 pm, swells from 15 to 18 feet, dangerous currents

From the National Weather Service

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT THIS
EVENING…

LARGE SWELLS ARE FORECAST ACROSS ALL CENTRAL CALIFORNIA WATERS
THROUGH TODAY. SWELLS OF 15 TO 18 FT ARE CURRENTLY OCCURRING OVER
OUR COASTAL WATERS TODAY. THESE LARGE SWELLS WILL RESULT IN LARGE
BREAKING WAVES AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS WITHIN THE SURF ZONE. IN
ADDITION TO THESE HAZARDS…BEACH GOERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE
POTENTIAL FOR LARGE SNEAKER WAVES OCCURRING OVER PREVIOUSLY DRY
SAND. ALSO USE CAUTION WHEN IN COVES SINCE DANGEROUS WAVES MAY CUT
OFF YOUR EXIT ROUTE…TRAPPING YOU WITHIN THE COVE AND VULNERABLE
TO HIGH WAVES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN
THE ADVISORY AREA…PRODUCING RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH
EROSION.
