Mountain lion apparently kills deer in La Honda

[Note: This is at least the fourth significant sign in the past few weeks that one or more mountain lions are living in the La Honda area. The three prior incidents were sightings. One of the sightings was of two lions simultaneously.]

PRESS RELEASE

At 6:00 AM, this morning, a deer was killed @ Entrada Wy, & Ventursa Ave, LaHonda. It appeared to have been killed by a mountain lion, although one was not seen.

If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with kittens. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.

Here are a few tips:

Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.

Keep a close watch on small children.

If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.

Pick up small children.
