“Noises Off” Consumes Coastal Repertory Theatre
With Fast-Paced Farce, Frivolity and Sardines
Play-within-a Play Slams Doors, Drops Double Entendres and Brandishes Sharp British Wit – Opens February 11
January 18, 2011 – Half Moon Bay, Calif. – The Coastal Repertory Theatre unleashes “Noises Off,” a two-time Tony nominated theatrical farce on February 11. The frantic British comedy features false entrances, flubbed lines, double entendres, a million laughs…and a million misplaced sardines.
This “groovy” show follows the on- and off-stage antics of an inept acting company stumbling from dress rehearsal to disastrous final night of a third-rate bedroom comedy called, “Nothing On.” Everything that can go wrong does, resulting in absolute hilarity. Considered by many the funniest play of the 20th Century, in this play-within-a-play, everyone gets caught in the act. “Noises Off” has had audiences laughing for over 25 years.
“Noises Off” originally premiered in 1982, after playwright Michael Frayn was inspired by watching another play’s performance from the wings. He observed, “It was funnier from behind than in front and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind.”
“This show blows the doors off any other comedy,” claims director, Mark Drumm. “The psychedelic set, the off-color humor, and the raucous dialogue meld into an experience that transports audiences into another world – a really, really funny place not soon forgotten.”
The cast includes Patricia Tyler as Dotty, Doug Brook as Lloyd, Eric O’Kelly as Garry, Courtney Hatcher as Brooke, Danny Martin as Frederick, Christine Le as Belinda, Jennifer Gregoire as Poppy, Stewart Kramar as Tim and Jack Weintraub as Selsdon.
Local English pub proprietor, Cameron Palmer was so enamored by the British farce, he has decided to get in on the act, himself. He will have some of his iconic collection of British and pub memorabilia on display at the theatre and will provide British beer for sale during the show’s run. Also, Cameron’s Pub will be offering a number of food and drink specials to any theatre patron bearing a “Noises Off” ticket stub through the end of March.
Dates and show times for “Noises Off” are February 11 through March 5, 2011; Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2pm.

“The funniest farce ever written! Never before has side-splitting taken on a meaning dangerously close to the non-metaphorically medical.” – New York Post
