“To Kill a Mockingbird” Chills Spirits, Warms Hearts, Teaches Tolerance
Classic Coming-of-Age Story Opens at Coastal Repertory Theatre September 16
August 25, 2011 – Half Moon Bay, Calif. – Award-winning Coastal Repertory Theatre unveils a classic, compelling production of the quintessential coming-of-age story, “To Kill a Mockingbird” September 16. Age-old class, gender and racial equality scenarios engage and inspire current audiences to consider their own heroes, values and beliefs.
Renowned for its warmth and humor, this rich play conveys serious racial, moral issues with enduring impact. Integrity and heroism rise in the most challenging of situations. Innocence may be lost, but courage and compassion emerge from the ruins. Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is both heartwarming and chilling; a quiet story of prejudice, racism, courage and human value. Watch the good people of Maycomb, Alabama tackle these questions of honor, race and family.
Growing up in the rural South during the Great Depression, siblings Scout and Jem‘s lives are shaken by the realization that prejudice and bigotry rule in their small town when their father, Atticus Finch, is compelled to defend a young black man falsely accused of assaulting a white woman. Finch’s courageous act unleashes the town’s wrath and endangers his family. Ultimately the trial’s tragic aftermath causes a ripple of change in a country town locked in old ways.
“While set in the Great Depression, ‘Mockingbird’ truly resonates with today’s audience,” says director Roxane Ashe. “Day-to-day, we all grapple with decisions – some small, some with real meaning. This is a story that portrays a moral compass to which we should all aspire.”
The cast includes Klara La Guardia, Angela Joswiak, Robert Letters, Finn Rollings, Phaedra Tillery, Mary Waterfield, Deborah Joves, Stacy Trevenon, Ginger Cutter, Gina Guistino, Beau Brown, Sean Rollings, Ed Love, Jack Weintraub, Dan Kapler, Hanna Harwood, Joe Guistino, Storm Russell, Adam Mansell, Kennedy Cutter, Doug Mallon, Marc Tabor, Tyrone Woodrow, Kay Nelson, Hannah Adler, Laurel Mitton, Rose Geller, Rob Mitton, NuPhaeya Hassen, Phoebe Geller.
