Board seeks applicants for vacant seat

The Cabrillo Unified School District Board of Education has issued a call for applicants to fill a seat previously held by Charles Gardner, who recently resigned for health reasons. The Board has determined to fill this vacancy through “provisional appointment.” The individual appointed to this seat will fill the remainder of Trustee Gardner’s term which expires on the first Thursday of December, 2012.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

-18 years of age or older
-a citizen of the state
-a resident of the Cabrillo Unified School District
-a registered voter
-not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office
-not a district employee

Interested applicants must submit a written letter of interest addressed to:

Letters must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26. Letters may be mailed or hand-delivered to the District Office at the above address by the deadline noted above.

The Board anticipates conducting interviews for all eligible applicants at a special session open to the public at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3. The Board has stipulated that candidates must participate in the interview process on October 3 in order to be considered for this appointment. The Board intends to make the provisional appointment during the course of this session and the appointee will be sworn-in at the next regularly scheduled meeting to be held on Thursday, October 13.

The Board requests the letters of application should include, at a minimum, the following information: 1) a statement of applicant’s eligibility based on the criteria noted above; 2) a statement describing the applicant’s interest in serving on the board; and 3) a review of experiences and skills that would serve the applicant well as a member of the board.

Members of the general public are invited to offer oral or written comments in support of any of the applicants during the course of the October 3rd meeting.
