and Tony Award for Best Play–opening September 14.

Venture behind the headlines in “Doubt: A Parable”, the final show in Coastal Rep’s 2011-2012 season, running September 14 – October 6.

August 29, 2012 – Half Moon Bay, Calif. – Riding high from “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, Coastal Repertory Theatre’s 26th season finishes with “Doubt: A Parable”, a taut drama that pits the traditional against the new and faith against uncertainty, opening Friday, September 14 and running through Saturday, October 6.

“Doubt: A Parable” has earned rave reviews, including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. Set in a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964, “Doubt” explores the potent moral dilemmas faced by its characters. The school’s principal, Sister Aloysius, is certain that a popular priest is sexually abusing one of her pupils. Her rigid opinions clash with the priest’s more modern and flexible outlook, and with the beliefs of the student’s mother.

Director Martin Rojas Dietrich shares his excitement over Coastal Rep’s foray into this gripping production. “I am very fortunate to have an amazing ensemble cast of four actors and a phenomenal design team. I can’t wait for Coastal Rep audiences to take this roller coaster ride with us.”

Two actors, Nancy Martin of San Carlos, and Alexandrai Bond of Oakland, reprise roles they have played before. Martin says, “Sister Aloysius is one of the most complex, deep, and passionate characters I’ve had the opportunity to portray. I am looking forward to finding even more facets to her character at Coastal Rep.” Bond observes, “I wanted to explore Mrs. Muller a second time because I was so intrigued by her story. What happens to her in this moment has the potential to change her life and her family drastically.” The production also features Michael Lederman of Half Moon Bay and Kateri Rose of San Jose.

Venture behind the headlines with “Doubt: A Parable” running Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from September 14 through October 6.
