Crime wave on the coast

Over the past several weeks, there have been numerous auto burglaries throughout the Coast, including from beach parking lots and turnouts.   The suspect(s) gained access by breaking out the windows of locked vehicles.  There have also been thefts from several unlocked vehicles within the residential areas along the Coast.

In most of these cases, items such as iPods, cellular phones, laptop computers, wallets, purses and credit cards were stolen.  Typically, credit cards are quickly used at local gas stations and at department stores to purchase expensive items.

In addition to the auto burglaries, several vehicles have been stolen recently from various coastal communities.  Not all of these cases are related and are most likely the work of several different individuals.  The Sheriff’s Office is actively following up on leads and continuing to investigate these cases.  Anyone with information on any of these crimes is asked to contact San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office at 650-363-4915.

You may also call the Sheriff’s Office Anonymous Witness Line at 800-547-2700.

Citizens are reminded to call the Sheriff’s Office immediately with any suspicious activity and please remember to keep your vehicles and residences secured.
