Interagency disaster response center to hold public dedication, April 6, 10am-2pm

PRESS RELEASE

Half Moon Bay, CA ─  Join us for the Community Dedication of The New Coastside Department Operations Center brought to you by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, City of Half Moon Bay and Coastside Fire Protection District. Come out and learn Coastside Disaster Preparedness Tips from State, County, Municipal, Private and Non-Profit organizations, all of whom will be represented at the event. The preparedness day will be part of the continued efforts of all involved agencies to provide ongoing community training for the Coastside should disaster strike.

This will be the most recent in a series of events to enhance interagency relationships with Coastside residents, provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of emergency response, and share thoughts and ideas designed to identify gaps in disaster preparedness.

Previously, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) sponsored the Coastside Disaster Preparedness Assessment and Exercise at the New Coastside Department Operations Center. The safety-training exercise brought together more than 40 public safety and community outreach organizations, including representatives from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Half Moon Bay, the San Mateo County Supervisors Office, the Half Moon Bay School District and several nonprofit and volunteer groups.

In the words of Don Mattei, coordinator for the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services, “Disaster preparedness involves efficient coordination and a commitment from everyone within the community. Training exercises can be very effective in improving our preparedness, and I am encouraged by the high level of participation along the Coastside.”
