Recall supporters win landslide victory, vote tally nearly 2-to-1 to remove Alifano, Mackintosh, and Riddell from office

Supporters of the fire board recall won a decisive victory in Tuesday’s election with “yes” votes outpacing “no” votes nearly two to one. All three of the anti-Cal Fire fire board directors–Mike Alifano, Doug Mackintosh, and Gary Riddell–have been removed from office by a vote of the people. Karen Anderson, Harvey Rarback, and JB Cockrell will take their places.

A special meeting of the fire board will take place on Monday, April 15th. This meeting was called by the board before the election day. Recall candidates have said that they will use the meeting to sign a letter of intent with Cal Fire to begin contract negotiations and to preserve Cal Fire’s presence on the Coastside.

The final results of the race were not made public until just before midnight due to a computer malfunction at the San Mateo County Board of Elections which caused a disruption in their web service.
