New Special Education and Fiscal Services directors appointed by school board

The Cabrillo Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director of Special Education Services. On August 15, 2013, the Cabrillo Unified School District Governing Board approved the recommendation to appoint Meredith Raymond to this position. Ms. Raymond comes to the District from the Gateway Unified School District where she served in the same role.

Raymond earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from Humboldt State University and a Master in Arts Degree in Education, also from Humboldt State University. She is also earned a Multiple Subject Services Credential, a Specialist Learning Handicapped Credential, and an Administrative Services Credential.

In the selection process, a diverse group of parents, teachers, classified, and administrative employees interviewed a slate of qualified candidates. Besides oral interviews, an extensive review of past employment histories for all candidates was performed. Raymond has demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively with parents and Special Education staff to ensure programs match the identified needs of special education students. Besides serving as a director of special education, Raymond has also supervised and taught in Special Education for more than thirty years.

Raymond has begun her tenure in the District and she has relocated to the coastside.

The Cabrillo Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director of Fiscal Services. On August 15, 2013, the Cabrillo Unified School District Governing Board approved the recommendation to appoint Crystal Leach to this position. Ms. Leach comes to the District from the Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Union School District where she served in the same role.

Leach earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master in Business Administration Degree from Walden University. She is also earned California certification as a Chief Business Officer.

In the selection process, a diverse group of District employees interviewed a slate of qualified candidates. The committee selected two finalists for the Superintendent to interview and determine the best candidate for the District. Besides oral interviews, an extensive review of past employment histories for all candidates was performed. Her experience and work history are an excellent match for the Cabrillo Unified School District. Ms. Leach has an impressive record of working directly with staff and the community to provide transparency in the fiscal operations of the District. She also has experience managing bond programs.

Ms. Leach replaces Wael Saleh, Chief Business Officer who accepted a similar position in the Redwood City School District.

Ms. Leach begins her tenure in the District immediately. She plans to relocate to the community and is excited for this opportunity.
