Were you in yesterday's HMB July 4th Parade? Would you like a photo of family or friends in the parade? If so, we have photos of the parade that you can browse and download for free.
Here's how it works:
1) Click on the picture (above) or on this link to go to the photo gallery.
2) Browse to a photo you like by clicking on the little pictures on any of the twenty-one pages.
3) When you are at the picture you like move the cursor over the image and a menu will appear--choose "Save Photo."
That's it. Download as many as you like--they are free for personal use (i.e. please don't use them on a for-profit web page, etc).
Note that the images are a combination of photos that I shot as well as those shot by my wife, Lori, and daughter, Elizabeth. So you might see the same float in three different places in the gallery.
Enjoy.

Friday was Rock the Block night in Half Moon Bay.
We parked near the library and was greeted by a distant rhythmic thumbing, all bass, coming from loudspeakers a few blocks over on Main Street. Iggy Pop’s Nighclubbing. It brought a smile to my face. As we approached Main the song switched over to Leonard Cohen.
A good start and it got me in the right mood.
I shot a few photos that I’d like to share. I hope you enjoy them.

Last night I had a chance to stop by the Half Moon Bay Nights of Light.
Normally at this time of year I am visiting family out of state so this was my first time at this relatively new festival. I arrived late but the place was still in full swing.
I took a few snapshots that I thought you might enjoy.

you who wander over the wide earth, over
all the sea's domain on your flying horses,
easily delivering mortal men from
death and terror:
swept in far descent to the strong-built vessel's
masthead, you ride shining upon the cables,
through the weariness of the dark night bringing
light to the black ship.
(English translation of portion of poem by Spartan poet Alcaeus of Mytilene, writing about 2600 years ago.)
I almost didn’t go. I’m so glad I went.
The lighthouse at Pigeon Point was to turn on their old-fashioned light with the Fresnel lenses. I know what a Fresnel lens is--I’m a photographer. You find them in camera viewfinders, groundglasses of view cameras, on the front of studio lights... So I expected that when they turned on the old light--first installed one hundred and thirty-five years ago--the light would be brighter, or maybe more tightly focused. Something subtle.
The modern light spun its beacon around and around in the thick, cold fog. It went dark. I waited, memorizing the last sight of the modern light lest it be difficult to distinguish from the old one.
When the light returned it wasn’t so much re-lit as it was reborn. The Ancients would have worshiped it for a god.
And rightly so.

Thursday, 01 November 2007 20:44 |
Last night, Halloween night, we held our 2nd Annual Driveway Party and way station, offering food, drinks, movies, and--of course--candy to the beggars in the neighborhood. This year we had even more people stop by than last year--perhaps three hundred or more costumed creatures joined us in our driveway.
For added fun (read: crazy complexity) I decided to shoot pictures (in the dark) of all of the costumes. That was the goal, anyway. I probably on got a fourth of them in the camera due to all the chaos. If I missed you--or didn’t get your shot focused right (memo: figure out better method to focus in the dark)--then better luck next year!
But for those I did get a chance to shoot, and for those who are curious to see what goes on in Montara during Halloween, here are the photographs (click to go to gallery).
To download the full-sized files navigate to the picture you wish to download, then move your mouse onto the image. A menu will appear offering you various sizes in which to view the image. Choose “original.” Then, for Mac users, control-click to to download. For Windows users, right-click.
I hope you enjoyed this Halloween as much as I did!
