The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday to instruct their legal counsel to draft a resolution that would prevent individuals from serving on both the MCC and as elected officials at local government agencies.
This conflict-of-interest issue has been raised from time to time by complaints that certain MCC members pursue actions favorable to the other elected body that they serve, in conflict with their role on the MCC. Currently three of the five MCC members also serve as elected officials on other local government agencies: Chair Leonard Woren serves on the El Granada Sanitary District and on the Sewer Authority Midcoast boards, Kathryn Slater Carter serves on the Montara Water and Sanitary District board, and Gael Erikson serves on the El Granada Sanitary District board. In addition, the Board of Supervisors plans to vote to appoint Sabrina Brennan to fill one of the two empty seats. The agenda indicates the Board plans to reject the application for Ric Lohman to fill the other seat on the grounds that he serves on the El Granada Sanitary District's board.
