This five minute video finds Neil Merrilees up on the roof with Dennis Paull in Half Moon Bay. Dennis, one of the organizers of the Eco-Solar Tour, has installed a variety of green additions to his home.
The third annual Eco-Solar Tour takes place this Saturday from 1-4 pm. You can visit their web page here.
The overall theme is "Sustainability" and the 25 stops on the tour (which you can visit in any order, skipping as you wish) feature not only solar technologies but also low-water landscaping, hybrid cars, and other examples of sustainability.
To obtain the tour map you will need to register.

This is a slideshow that will probably only interest
car nuts.
I bought this 1960 Porsche Roadster in 1983,
and drove it for a couple of years, until floor was so
rusty that you could see the yellow line go by your
feet while you were passing. I started looking into
repairing it, and the more I found out, the harder it
seemed to fix. I took it apart, and agonized about
repairing it for 20 years.
A couple of years ago, I had a break from work, so I
decided to take it on.
The car is a unibody (it has no frame) so the body had to be braced while the sheet
metal was being replaced. The first thing that was
necessary was to build a "rotisserie" that allows the
body to be flipped on all sides and angles in order to
work without climbing underneath, and a bracing system
that you can see in some of the pictures.
As you can see from some of the shots, I had help from
the family.
Now I am busy again, and it sits, ready for paint,
until I have another break from work.

This episode: Poles, Commercial, Residential
Would you believe me if I told you that the law requires builders to build three-story, ocean-view blocking houses along the waterfront?
In this installment of his popular video column, Neil Merrilees takes a walk down Mirada Road in Miramar. You may be surprised at what he finds.

The politics of the coast are polarized around the issue of development and tend to get even more polarized as we near election time.
Are you for or against? Is the League for Coastside Protection a star chamber for the Montara Mafia or the only and last true hope to prevent the Malibuization of our neighborhoods? Is Coastside Community First a front for greedy developers intent on destroying all that is good and noble or a magnet for people and ideas concerned about creating a better future for ourselves and for our children?
There’s not a lot of middle ground here, folks.
And then there is Neil. In February of this year Neil filmed this first installment of his video column, Right Here In the Middle. In it he tries to make the case for a bit of new thinking--watch and let us know what you think.
