This chart shows two things: The percentage of coastside homes which have sold in the last twelve months (October 2007 to September 2008) which sold for less than the purchase price. It also shows the percentage of current homeowners that are estimated to be "underwater" (who owe more than their original mortgage).

Note that the data that the chart is based upon does not appear to include home equity lines of credit which, if that is the case, would suggest that the numbers of homes underwater is understated on this chart.

Also note that in the case of very small communities (such as La Honda) the data may be especially unreliable given the few houses which were sold in those communities.
